SCHOOL RESOURCE

Pfc. Chris Fraley

  Cpl. James Hott

We are fortunate to have a safe school system in Allegany County where students and faculty can concentrate on education. Within the city, there are seven public schools and one private. The partnership between school administration and law enforcement continues to be excellent and has been elevated to another level with the addtion of School Resource Officers (SRO)

A priority of the Cumberland Police Department is visible patrols in the city schools. CPD officers also maintain school crossings for elementary students at heavily traveled intersections. As a crime deterrent the department's K-9 unit is randomly used in the schools to conduct drug scans of lockers, hallways, and parking areas.

Since 2001 the Department has participated in the SRO program. Cpl. James Hott and Pfc. Chris Fraley are both nationally certified School Resource Officers. Cpl. Andrew Tichnell is also certified and assist with D.A.R.E. instruction. All the officers have an excellent working relationship with both students and administration and are called upon to provide instruction and training to students on safety, career choices and drug awareness.
