The City of Cumberland is located in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland. Cumberland is 130 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 140 miles west of Baltimore, Maryland, and 140 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.
The Cumberland Fire Department is a career department with 57 members consisting of one Fire Chief, one Administrative Officer, one Fire Marshal, one Deputy Chief, five Captains, six Lieutenants, twelve Equipment Operators, and 30 Firefighters.
Personnel are cross-trained for both fire suppression and emergency medical services. All members are trained to the emergency medical technician-basic (EMT-B) level. The Cumberland Fire Department is staffed with 20 Advanced Life Support providers, i.e., paramedics or cardiac rescue technicians.
The Cumberland Fire Department operates from three fire stations, four pumpers, one aerial tower, one rescue truck, one command unit and five advanced life support ambulances.
The Fire Prevention Bureau provides fire investigations, fire inspections, code enforcement, plan reviews, and public education.
The Training Division works in cooperation with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute and is a member of the Maryland Council of Fire and Rescue Academies.
The goal of the Cumberland Fire Department is to provide the best possible fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to our customers.
