[ARCHIVED] Planning Commission hearing scheduled on proposed Boardinghouse Zoning Amendment

The City Administrator, as an official of the City of Cumberland, has made application to the Mayor and City Council for a Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA #15-01) to the City of Cumberland Zoning Ordinance in accordance with Section 15.02 of the Cumberland Zoning Ordinance, also known as Ordinance #3775, and the Land Use Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

The purpose of the proposed amendments to the Boarding House/Hostel Definition in Section 2.03 (22) and the Use Regulations Table in Section 6.02 of the Zoning Ordinance will be to limit the number of bedrooms and tenants for a Boarding House to four (4) and to prohibit the use in the Urban Residential (R-U) and Gateway Industrial (G-I) Zones, but add them as a use permitted by right in the Business Highway (B-H) Zone.

The Municipal Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Cumberland will meet and hold a public hearing on this proposed Zoning Text Amendment on Monday, March 14, 2016, at 4:30 PM in the Mayor and City Council Chambers at City Hall, 57 North Liberty Street, 2nd Floor, Cumberland, Maryland. The Planning Commission will hear public comment, discuss, and make a formal recommendation to the Mayor and City Council regarding this amendment request. Interested persons should plan to attend this hearing.

A copy of the proposed Zoning Text Amendment and the associated staff report are on file and available for public view at the City of Cumberland Department of Community Development during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM). The Department is located in the lower level of City Hall at 57 North Liberty Street, Cumberland, Maryland.
