[ARCHIVED] City of Cumberland Boards & Commission Vacant/Upcoming Seats


MEDIA RELEASE:                                      September 14, 2023 


The City of Cumberland Board & Commissions are seeking individual Citizens to serve in the Vacant or Upcoming seats. The following will be available:

• City of Cumberland Zoning Board of Appeals Vacancy Announced  
5-member board that hears/decides appeals to decisions made by the Zoning Administrator in the enforcement, interpretation or administration of the Zoning Ordinance. Requires City residency and serves a 3-year term. Will be paid $25 bi-weekly. 
• Housing Authority of the City of Cumberland Vacancy Announced   
5-member board that is tasked with managing and operating its housing projects efficiently and shall establish rents for the units at a rate that does not allow for operation at a profit/provide a source of revenue to the political subdivision. Each member serves a 5-year term.

• Shade Tree Commission Vacancy Announced  
9-member board that determines the needs of tree maintenance programs, recommending the type and kind of trees to be planted, assist in providing information to the Citizens on tree management practices, and recommend alternative funding sources for planning and maintenance. Each member serves a 4-year term.

• Administrative Appeals board – Upcoming Vacancy
5-member board that assumes the responsibilities of the Board of Election Supervisors, Civil Service & Ethics Commissions. Each member serves a 3-year term. 

• Historic Preservation Commission – Upcoming Vacancy 
 7-member board that provides the power to adopt rehabilitation and designs guidelines for landmarks, sites or structures and reviews/approves applications for Certificates of Appropriateness within historic areas. Each member serves a 3-year term.

• Planning and Zoning Commission – Upcoming Vacancy
 5-member board that is tasked with drafting and approving a plan to ensure appropriate development of public and private property and provides review/approval of major subdivisions/site plans. Each member will serve a 5-year term.
