The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold two public comment hearings this month in Allegany and Frederick counties on the application of the Potomac Edison Company to increase its electric distribution rates by more than $19 million. In addition, the company proposes to increase the monthly residential customer charge by $2.50 and also to implement a surcharge to fund electric reliability programs. Potomac Edison’s last rate case was decided in 1994.
Members of the public who wish to comment on the matter are welcome to attend one or both of the hearings, scheduled as follows:
Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.
Cumberland Ramada Downtown (Crown South Room)
100 South George Street in Cumberland (Allegany County)
Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.
Winchester Hall
12 East Church Street in Frederick (Frederick County)
Potomac Edison serves approximately 266,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in all or parts of Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Howard, Montgomery, and Washington counties. According to the application, the proposed rates and surcharge would result in an increase of about $6.36 on the bill of the average residential customer.
