NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Charter Amendment Resolution No. 148

Notice is hereby given that the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland (the “City”), will hold a public hearing to consider Charter Amendment Resolution No. 148 to empower the City Administrator to declare emergencies in certain events and pass temporary administrative orders as are necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and/or welfare, and to empower the Mayor and City Council to pass executive orders in emergencies.

DATE: Tuesday, July 7, 2020

TIME:  6:15 P.M.

PLACE OF MEETING:  To support social distancing, the Mayor and Council are conducting meetings virtually.  The virtual meetings can be viewed through the City’s website www.ci.cumberland.md.us under the Government tab and then Public Meetings or through Facebook @Cumberland City Hall Livestream.

How to Participate in the Public Hearing:

If you wish to submit comments in writing for the Public Hearing, email comments to the City Clerk at margie.woodring@cumberlandmd.gov by no later than 2:00 PM on the date of the meeting.  All comments will be acknowledged by the Mayor and Council during the meeting.

If you wish to participate virtually in the Public Hearing during the live meeting, please send your name and phone number to margie.woodring@cumberlandmd.gov no later than 9:00 AM on the day of the meeting to receive all the information you need to join the meeting to share your comments.  Instructions will also be available on the published agenda for the meeting.

The Charter Amendment Resolution is scheduled to be adopted at the July 21, 2020, public meeting of the Mayor and City Council.  The Charter Amendment Resolution will become effective September 9, 2020, provided that, the qualified voters of the City will have the right to petition the Charter Amendment Resolution to referendum in accordance with the Local Government Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 4, Subtitle Municipal Charter Amendment.

A full version of the Charter Amendment Resolution may be viewed through the City’s website at www.ci.cumberland.md.us and will also be posted to the on-line public meeting agenda for July 7, 2020, also viewable at the previously stated website.
