[ARCHIVED] Notice to City of Cumberland Utility Customers – Governor’s Order Lifted September 1, 2020

Maryland Governor Hogan’s Order, Number 20-07-31-01, that was extended on July 31, 2020 prohibiting the termination of residential services and late fees has expired as of September 1, 2020.

The City of Cumberland would like to provide notice to all water, sewer and trash utility customers that the expiration of this order allows the City to resume collection of all overdue water/sewer accounts.   All past due balances must be paid to avoid termination of service.  Termination of service for non-payment will resume November 16, 2020.

Customers in need of financial assistance with utility bills to prevent the termination of service are encouraged to contact the Allegany County Human Resources Development Commission (HRDC) right away as the HRDC administers programs to assist those facing financial difficulty.  More information and application requirements/instructions are available by calling 301-777-8550.

Another resource for those facing financial difficulty is Associated Charities of Cumberland, which offers emergency assistance with paying utility bills when shut off notices have been served.  Call Deanna Clark at 301-784-7118 or Donna Abe at 301-784-7254 to see if you qualify.

Any questions regarding the reinstatement of fees for late payment or termination of services should be directed to the Office of Tax & Utility at 301-759-6409.
