[ARCHIVED] The City of Cumberland’s DDC Announces Downtown Window Decorating Contest

The Downtown Development Commission (DDC) is pleased to announce the Spring into Cumberland Window Decorating Contest, which will provide the opportunity for businesses in the DDC primary and secondary districts and any nonprofits, schools, and organizations to create a window display and be eligible for prizes. Each participating business or group will receive $100 in seed funding to help offset decorating costs.

This initiative will help decrease vacant store-front windows, enhance the windows of existing businesses and provide promotion and awareness of businesses and community groups throughout the spring and summer.

All participants must submit a registration form and a current W-9 by 4PM on Tuesday, March 29th. Displays must be completed by 5PM on April 30th. A public vote for windows will run May 1st - June 5th and winners will be notified the week of June 13th.

There will be two categories of winners – the first businesses and the second includes nonprofits/organizations and schools. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each group (six prizes total). Prizes will be marketing packages worth $750, $500 and $250. Winners will choose how they would like to spend their marketing dollars and the DDC will pay vendors directly. Examples of marketing could include: radio advertising, newspaper or magazine ads, printed materials such as brochures, posters, flyers, menus or signage, or a website or social media refresh or design.  Prize packages can be spent with multiple vendors.

To register for the contest, contact Melinda Kelleher, Executive Director of the DDC, at melinda.kelleher@cumberlandmd.gov or 301-759-6443.
